ABOUT WILDWOOD CANYON STATE PARK
Wildwood Canyon State Park, which is located in the mountains above Yucaipa, California, was created through the efforts of Yucaipa residents to preserve two historic ranches that were once destined to become housing developments.
On Friday, May 9, 2003, the formal dedication of Wildwood Canyon State Park took place. However, it has not yet been officially designated as the type of state park it will ultimately be.

Land occupied by the Birmingham and Porter Ranches were authorized for upscale housing in the mid-1990s. A few years later a wildfire hit the ranches and flooding subsequently caused problems that lead the developers to pull out and local leaders began a campaign to create a state park. Frank Sissons, chairman of the Yucaipa Valley Conservancy, lead the effort, working with The Wildlands Conservancy in Oak Glen to pull together money to buy land and to arrange land donations.
Wildwood Canyon State Park currently consists of 900 acres in east Yucaipa and is home to wild animals, ancient oaks, wide open wildlands, trails and, soon, facilities for the public to enjoy the land’s splendor.
Since its formation, due to the state budget limitations, very little funding has been provided for park operations. The Supporters of Wildwood Canyon State Park, a group of local activists, has been coordinating clean-up and maintenance efforts through donations and donated labor.
