With everything going on in the world today one thing that kids need is a place to be kids and PLAY. With technology replacing bats, balls and bikes parents have been at a loss st how to get kids out and play. The drought didn’t help as cities all over California began to rip out grass in an effort to save water.
Well the Historic Downtown Upland Farmers Market has changed things up this year in an effort to get families out to the local farmers market/market night and allow kids the ability to be free to PLAY. The grass roots effort had the Historic Downtown Group that runs the market asking for ideas and donations as the idea was getting ready to launch. You may ask well were they able to do it? Well Jolene Houser one of the people responsible for this years market has this awesome idea off and running:
“Something new and different is happening at FAMILY NIGHT OUT in Historic Downtown Upland that takes place each Thurs. evening from 5 -9 at 2nd Ave. & 9th St. We have vendors, food, and music as most markets, but this year we are dedicating 9th street in both directions to the kids! Besides pony rides, a petting zoo, etc., one block is a free play area for children with old time games such as Hopscotch, hula hoops, jump ropes, & carnival-type activities FREE OF CHARGE said Jolene Houser on Facebook.”
You may be asking is there just games what about activities for kids to just chill out to plus what if the kids get hungry or thirsty they can’t spend a lot of money what about that?
“Children’s movies are also shown, again, free of charge. Food vendors have special reduced offerings for children. We will have special guests such as the Fire Department, Police Department, magic shows, storytelling, art projects and more (details on Facebook, Historic Downtown Upland, Inc.). The Downtown appreciates the Corporate Sponsors who are helping to make the kids’ area such a success with games, prizes, and more. We are getting more interest and offers every day, but so far we have Walmart, Dave & Busters, Skate Express, Baldy View Gymnastics, 7-Eleven, IHOP, Lakeshore Learning, and Easter Seals Daycare all providing assistance.
