Will NASCAR Return to Fontana in 2021?

Now you know that Joel is a big NASCAR fan and always looks forward to the opportunity to converge on the Oval Track in Fontana any chance he gets. We all got to enjoy NASCAR in Fontana in 2020 as the Covid-19 Pandemic had yet to take hold on California until right after the race. Well it seems as though any hope of seeing race cars Five Wide in Fontana have just slipped away…

Dave Allen the track president said in a Press Release:

“First and foremost, the health, safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, stakeholders and track personnel remains our top priority,” said Auto Club Speedway President Dave Allen. “The decision to realign our 2021 race weekend was an extremely difficult one. We will miss seeing the greatest fans in motorsports at the track and hearing the roar of NASCAR engines in Southern California this season. However, our colleagues across the industry will have our full support during the DAYTONA Road Course events and throughout the entire 2021 season, and we look forward to welcoming NASCAR competition back at Auto Club Speedway in 2022.”

It is unclear as the reason for moving the race from Fontana. From looking at the Schedule it appears that NASCAR is keeping the 1st month of the 2021 season in Florida, but in March the West Coast swing is still on the schedule with NASCAR races happening in the 1st part of March in Phoenix and Las Vegas. It is unclear if Florida is in a better place than California when it comes to cases.

We have reached out to NASCAR staff and will update this post when we hear back from them.
