HELP SUPPORT LOCAL SCHOOLS BY TAKING A LAP AROUND THE TRACK

FONTANA – Calif.  (July 28, 2016) – On Friday, August 26 between 3-7p.m., Auto Club Speedway will be open for the public to drive around the 2-mile oval track, the very same track that NASCAR stars battle side-by-side on.  The event is part of Lefty’s Track Day to help support local schools.

In addition, the Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion event organizers will be onsite pre-registering classic cars during Lefty’s Track Day. Participants who pre-register will have the opportunity to drive around the track too.

Paced by the Speedway’s Official Toyota Camry Pace Car, participants who make a $15.00 donation can drive their vehicle on the track and guests can also experience a pace car ride at speeds up to 100 mph for an additional $20.00.  NEW this year, an Autocross course is available to test driving skills for a $10 donation.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Auto Club Speedway Foundation which supports Lefty’s Reading Challenge, a program that encourages reading excellence from Southern California elementary school children and provides grants to school libraries.

“Lefty’s Reading Challenge motivated them to read.  Our school received $3,000 dollars to purchase new books and ebooks for our library!” said Tammy Roughton, Principal at Avalon Elementary.

“The statistics indicate that if kids can’t read well by the time they reach the third grade, they are much more likely to run the risk of not finishing high school later on,” said Dave Allen, Auto Club Speedway President.  “It’s fun to open our doors to fans and also help our children’s future by making sure our local school libraries are stocked with new reading material,” said Dave.

Lefty’s Reading Challenge, named after Auto Club Speedway mascot Lefty, is part of Auto Club Speedway’s heralded youth initiative.  More than 160,000 students from over 250 elementary schools in San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties read thousands of books during Lefty’s Reading Challenge earlier this year, winning thousands of dollars for their school libraries.
