Back in August Popeyes brought out their own version of the Chicken Sandwich. According to Felipe Athayde President of Americas Popeyes “for many years our guests have been asking us to create a Chicken Sandwich and we took the challenge”. Now why on Earth would they pull such a popular item away from fans? Well they had no idea it would do so well so fast!
According to Felipe Athayde President of Americas Popeyes “it was always supposed to be a permanent item but we were caught by suprise and we had to pull it for a little while”. Fans bought into the concept so much that Popeyes was forced to regroup! The reason behind why the sandwich was pulled for two months was they ran out of the chicken filet!
Amy Alarcon Head Chef for Popeyes said that “we couldn’t just go down the street and get the ingredients for this program”. Also Amy said “the hand dredged filet is a very particular cut from where it comes from so it wasn’t something you could replicate quickly”. Could you imagine being one of their supply partners on this product and hearing “yeah remember that order we made, were going to need a lot more”.
Popeyes sold so many Chicken Sandwiches in two weeks that it had it’s strongest quarter in twenty years! So the Chicken Sandwich is back and when it was first debuted there was a feud between which sandwich was better Popeyes or Chick-fil-A? Well Popeyes played off that feud by bringing their Chicken Sandwich back on SUNDAY November 3rd, the day of the week seems to hold some importance due to the fact that Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays.
